A CN Hudson
Author: Mberry

One of only five CN 4-6-4 Hudson's built (and one of two preserved), CN 5702 is seen out in the sun on a lovely summer afternoon at Exporail in St-Constant, Qc this past Saturday. Relegated to 'b-status' in the hangar behind it for decades, it was being moved to the Angus Pavillion (the museum's main and most modern building) and entered it yesterday. Featuring 80 inch drivers, these speedy class of locomotives routinely reached speeds of 100 mph in passenger service. I was glad to get sunny shots of it for the first time.

Since it is going inside, somebody remove the paint from the rods and shine her up.

Interesting that CN had only a handful of Hudsons and a lot of Northerns and CP had a lot of Hudsons and only a couple Northerns (if I recall correctly). Thanks very much for posting.

That's correct. CN had only 5 Hudson's and CP only 2 Northern's.

Do they rotate exhibits into and out of the main hall often? I saw the Hudson in the barn a couple years ago and wished I could get a better view.

All Hudsons are beautiful and CN's are among the rare.  Thanks for posting.

Both were still there this past weekend, with the FPA-4 having changed aisles.

Thanks for the memories - was fortunate to see them in action out
of Toronto in the late 50's.

That is a beatiful locomotive.  Sure can't say I know anything about those speedsters.  Thanks for the nice education.

DOES ANYONE - other than the Illinois Railway Museum?
I recall the St. Louis Museum of Transportation set up a
night photo session - was not able to make it and wondered
if they ever repeated it.

It's a shame so few do...

43% of 100,000 lbs ( avoirdupois) starting tractive force....
Differenent classes of engines had varying per-cents ratings.

Talk about a hidden gem . .  would have been the highlight exhibit at most other museums!
