Steam on Maui
Author: cascade1112

Maui's Lahaina, Kaanapali & Pacific (the Sugar Cane Train) is now operating the seasonal Holiday Express trains twice nightly through New Year's Eve, from Puukolii Station to a point north of the big trestle.  There is no Lahaina service.  Maui News photos show 2-4-0 "Anaka" in service, and note the 2-4-0 "Myrtle" has been restored to operation following an FRA inspection in October.  The owners hope to resume regular operations in May.  Details and photos: http://www.mauinews.com/news/local-news/2018/11/back-on-track-all-aboard-the-sugar-cane-train/ and http://www.mauinews.com/news/local-news/2018/12/sugar-cane-holiday-express/.  Mele Kalikimaka!

The Phoenix has arisen! I personally thought that the line was as dead as a dodo, so this is great news. You know, now that I stare at Maui from my lanai, it seems to be even more beautiful.

Fun fact: In former times, the railroad was a subsidiary of Yreka Western.

I may be able to check this out while on holiday this winter. Looking forward to it!

That begs for an explaination there sir, the connection between the EBT and the Maui line
got washed out in Ricky Ricardo's Bridge Across the Pacific scheme.

It is a nice ride. If you can get permission to walk in a short distance on a golf course near the west end of the line there is a nice timber trestle without any auto traffic in the way. Works both ways.
