This is what it would have looked like if Anshultz had brought the SP in 1960.

Philip Anschutz (not Anschultz) bought the Southern Pacific in 1988 and combined it with his ownership of the Denver and Rio Grande.

Anschutz brought the Rio Grande in 1996 and the Southern Pacific in 1998. The combined railroad used the Southern Pacific name.
In the picture you have SP 18 running on Rio Grande trackage.  If Anschutz had completed his purchases 30 years earlier you might have actually seen this happen in 1960.
Does that help?

Yup, would have saved the Owens Valley line to run fiber cable up it and it'd still be running. Uh huh.

Anschutz purchased Rio Grande Industries in 1984, not 1996. In 1988 Rio Grande Industries purchased the Southern Pacific Transportation Company, not in 1998. Union Pacific bought the combined SP/DRGW in 1996.

Thanks for the correction.
