"From the UP Steam Team: We've been working hard out here making good progress. For the first time in 60 years a UP 4000 class locomotive has fire in its firebox in Cheyenne...an oil fire.A fire was successfully lit April 9 in the firebox of the UP 4014, the crew is excited to undergo additional testing of the modified "oil conversion" for the Big Boy 4014."

They posted a GIF, not a video... probably an image from the 844 or 3985...

And that attitude is probably why the current steam program does not appear to care about old school railfans. If you look closely, it DOES appear to be the firebox door off 3985, which makes sense with parts being scavenged off of it. But the backhead is bare steel and staybolts, so I see no reason to think they're trying to deceive you.

It's just a flickering orange light bulb in the firebox. Still goes along with my theory that they will use smoke machine in the stack and a Soundtraxx decoder and just have a diesel push it

I have it on good authority that the boiler was condemned, and a new form of propulsion is being installed. They are now rushing to convert the tenderto haul Mentos and diet Coke.

Much less sticky residue left behind than if they used regular Coke; easier to get the job done on the boiler wash.  Just remember that while the exhaust may smell delectible, the presence of lubricating oil makes it a poor idea to stand trackside with a Bubba Cup and catch a gulpfull from the cylinder cocks.  Plus, the soda's flat after expansion anyway.

You're all wrong. The Centipede tender has a caterpillar drive like the submarine in Red October.

Yeah, I don't know if these negative farts on TO have some foam induced humor disease or if they're really just that crabby.

Maybe their wives joke about their non functioning parts like they tease about 4014 not working.

OMG....another member of the railfan community outraged about an imagined problem. What ever will happen if a fire had indeed been lit? What then will you say? "Oh....I was just kidding".
