Not that I mind. Date: 04/13/19 11:36 Re: "Big Boy" image Author: HotWater Spikes Wrote:

Maybe sitting inside the Cheyenne Shop, 844 "didn't have anything on it", but it sure has all sorts of crap on the front end whenever it runs, not to mention all the bright shinny nuts & bolts and "dog dishes" at each wash-out plug. Date: 04/13/19 14:21 Re: "Big Boy" image Author: andersonb109 Why do so many operators of steam in the U.S. (not just UP) insist on screwing up the appearance of their locomotives? I love the American flag. But it, and any other flag other than those needed for operational purposes should not be on the front of the loco. And another pet peeve. Why do crews in the cab insist on wearing those obnoxious yellow vests? If you have to go off the footplate, then by all means put one on for safety reasons. But they completely ruin any attempt at photos. Somehow in steam days they managed to survive without them. And of course the real killer. The diesel assist. If needed, at least put the dam thing at the back of the train out of view. That's how it's generally done in the U.K. but only on rare occasions when needed.

Thus, you will NOT see such flags on the front of SP 4449! And another pet peeve. Why do crews > in the cab insist on wearing those obnoxious > yellow vests? Again, you will NOT see those "obnoxious yellow vests" in the cab of SP 4449, as we request the Pilot Crews to remove them while in the cab. Remember that the various railroad rules require those vests/jackets to be worn when ON THE GROUND! Thus, there is no need to wear them in the cab, especially since those vests/jackets are NOT constructed of 100% cotton, and should NOT be worn in the cab of a steam locomotive. Absolutely! And of course the real killer. The > diesel assist. If needed, at least put the dam > thing at the back of the train out of view. Such can NOT be done due to various and many operating rules & requirements. Besides, how would the the steam locomotive be able to control that unit on the rear of the passenger train? That's > how it's generally done in the U.K. but only on > rare occasions when needed. But,,,,,,,that diesel on the rear in the UK is NOT providing HEP to the rest of the train, nor is it "controlled" by the steam locomotive up front. Your trying to compare apples and water melons! To see what each and every foamer would like to see (or not to see) on the next run. If it's not possible to meet every request, then the dress up should go to the highest bidder. Problem solved. Each and every moron can be happy. Date: 04/13/19 17:12 Re: "Big Boy" image Author: nycman Date: 04/13/19 17:33 Re: "Big Boy" image Author: HotWater nycman Wrote:
------------------------------------------------------- > Hmmm Yes, I was waiting such a comment. Not that 4449 is painted in red, white and blue from the American Freedom Train, and ALWAYS carried American flags in the flag holders. At the end of each move, those flags were presented to the local official of the city/town where the Freedom Train had just arrived in. Little known story: upon arriving in St Louis, I was delegated to go up and remove the two flags, which were going to be presented to the Mayor of St Louis. Apparently, non of the "big shots" from the mayor's office ever showed up, so............to this very day, those same 2 American flags are mounted & framed, with photos of me removing the flags, in our up-stairs library. Regardless, why couldn’t a locomotive on the rear of a consist provide HEP to the train? Date: 04/13/19 18:10 Re: "Big Boy" image Author: TomG I still think this is the most beautiful Locomotive made by man. I dont care if it runs flags or not. Actually I kinda like white extra flags, but she is beautiful and patriotic with American flags.
