04-18-19 = Coxo Curve = Snow

I am being told Coxo Curve is one of the most difficult areas to get ready for trains.

Ya know Roger, playing Margaritaville, while looking at a big bunch of snow that need to be removed in the not so distant future, the sign of a demented mind......

Seriously, yes, Coxo is a tough place to deal with.  All those lovely spruce trees along the track shield it from the sun for most of the day, so the snow never gets a chance to melt.  Also the geography makes for a natural snow fence and the lots of snow lands here.  It gets deeper and deeper all winter, and for some reason it seems to form a pocket of cold air in that nice spruce grove.

The track is also on rather flat ground, so it is more difficult to push the snow aside with a dozer.  Once on the curve, you can push it over the side.

Coxo Curve was the location of the last snowshed on the narrow gauge.  It lasted until 1938.

If you didn't know there was a railroad under all that snow, you'd never guess where it ran.  Even I got lost a couple times wondering where the RR was.

Thanks for the information and the compliment (a demented mind). I had to do two flights cuz I lost the track.

I'm from flat lands, so pardon my ignorance.   What do they have to do to get it ready?   I would think that once it starts to melt some, it gets too heavy for a plow train or rotary..... but I have no idea.

Thanks

My guess is for this year they will use front end loaders, backhoes & Diesel 19 with a plow.
