North Carolina Transportation Museum announcement.
Author: Spoony81

The NC Transportation Museum is teasing an announcement tomorrow on Facebook. The 611 FB page responded with “hmmmm” and the thinking emoji. Guessing 611 is going back to the museum when it’s done at Strasburg.

Wow, I am confused, you mean after Strasburg fixes the locomotive, allows it to do some short runs on the line, allows the public to take photos, plus running 475 also, you mean that NCRM wants it to come back??????

That’s my guess, what else would it be? Unless you’re being sarcastic I don’t understand the tone of your post and why it’s a bad thing NCRM wants it to come back down.

I can't believe how many people on Facebook think it's going to be a restoration of 1218. I think our perspective of "big announcement" is now skewed.

611 is heading back to NCTM in late October for runs the first week of November

Hi 611 people in the know...just so I get my score card accurate,......can we no longer expect to ever see again the 611 charge out of Roanoke station and make its way up Blue Ridge grade with a SOLID red consist (not that mismatched rented rented circus train), and pass the true N&W signals that saw multiple Y-6’s on coal trains?   Is this sight gone forever?

Yup.

Better pulling a mismatched consist then not running on the mainline at all. I rode one of the trips a few years ago in a restored Great Northern full dome, my grandson and I thought it was a great trip. In this day and age, I think we need to be thankful for any kind of large steam operation. I am scheming on how to get to Spencer with my grandson in November to see it again.

I for one had a blast with the 611 trips over the last couple years.  Even if some people can't get over the fact that the trips weren't run the way THEY wanted them to be.  If you couldn't get a decent shot of the 611 over those recent three years you were either a poor or unimaginative photographer.  Either way the whining old men got their wish.  No more rainbow consists!

Seems like everyone has to settle, settle, settle.  On top of that, no open window coaches, no hanging out Dutch doors,  Just a ride in a sealed car, or a commuter coach.   Steam on a 4-10 mile short line, at 25mph, just doesn’t do it for me.  I don’t want to SETTLE.    I’d rather just PASS.

Really Mike? You’d rather everything had died off completely 60 years ago?
This is the reality of what we can experience now.

I’d say, I’m better off starting to print my negatives.  First ones taken in 1955.

Put your money where your mouth is or shut up.

You want to see a perfectly matched passenger train pulled by the steam locomotive of your choice, going where you want it to, anty up the cost of procurement and operation and have at it.

First of all, NS and the NCTM have been extremely helpful in making sure the 611 runs somewhere in this PSR railroading world right now.      Also, a lot of people have put in HARD WORK to get this steam engine running and to keep it running.   Just because it isn't running on the mainline this year doesn't mean that is going to be forever.

The good thing in this is the throttle time,  2 years ago who would have thought you could get to run 611?
