They moved headquarters to El Segundo, so now it's jokingly called El Segundo Times :)

Any noticed a reference to and LA display location still un-announced?
May be a smart move.

The Times Costa Mesa plant was closed a number of years ago. Printed in downtown LA and one or two other plants.

That is a nice looking young lady who wrote the article.  And she's an intern.  I didn't think anybody from that generation could write a good article about railroading.

Anyone can write a good article about anything if they do proper research and don't have a pre conceived bias. 

What does that mean for the folks in Rio Linda?

Considering that Rio Linda is over 400 miles north of LA, not much.

That's what I use to decide if I'm going to read an article ... the cuteness of the author.  :-)

It surprised to see all the media attention 4014 received, and continues to receive. Not only the mainstream sources, but places like the millennials' (I think) Slate Magazine, cooking and home stuff SouthernLiving, International Harvester enthusiasts' Red Power, etc ...

Hope all this good buzz creates good for all the steam programs.

Wow, that comment sure is patronizing.

Why is it so hard for so many to believe that a young person could write a decent railroad article?

It is surprising because it is so rare to see a well written and accurate article.  It is surprising because of today's poor quality of education   which is displayed in the poor writing we see  in many publications..  It is surprising because so many journalists have been replaced by those who have not received proper instruction in writing and journalism

The Northridge plant was closed in the early 2000's.

OK, I shouldn't have mentioned age.  What I was really reacting to was the obvious ignorance of railroading displayed in newpaper articles published in recent years.  I attributed the change to the normal turnover in reporting staff with the old guard replaced with younger writers, somewhat accelerated by the business decline of the newspaper industry.  Ignorance of railroading reflects a cultural trend of railroading fading from the public conciousness, and is not directly related to a writer's age.
