Steam & Excursion > 4014 and crew photosDate: 10/11/19 15:13 4014 and crew photos Author: needles_sub In most of the photos and my seeing 4014, the crew really likes hanging out the gang way and windows.
When I followed 844 and 3985, the crew was seated and just waved. Rarely if ever saw anyone hanging out the gangway. Just a observation. Date: 10/11/19 15:27 Re: 4014 and crew photos Author: GRNDMND Popcorn time folks...

out and in all fairness with that boiler swing you're close to the signal before you can see it. The B&O had two guys on the Fireman side.. Two windows even..why was that ?

Unless other accomodations were provided, the head brakeman's seat was normally situated behind that of the fireman. On all three of UP's locomotives the all weather cabs have four seats in them, One behind each of the locomoitve working crew. Other than that, there's no priority. -LD . Date: 10/11/19 18:36 Re: 4014 and crew photos Author: callum_out Freeloaders, that's what tender doghouses are for!

Portlander, Are you aware that both arm rests, i.e the Engineer's AND Fireman's, on UP 844 have been seriously widened, in order that either man can be leaning out MUCH further than previously? Don't need them in the cab. Posting this for a friend.
Date: 10/12/19 17:45 Re: 4014 and crew photos Author: CaliforniaSteam Yes sometimes the fireman and engineer hang out if they hear something to check the running gear etc. But all the time????? Jack posted earlier the arm rest's on the 844 were replaced with bigger ones for the hanging out the cab. How can you run the train hanging out that much and not be checking gauges, communicating with fireman, and changing throttle positions. It's ridiculous.
