Steam & Excursion > SP 1744

Heard that SP 1744, which is on the SLRG in Colorado, has been sold. Not sure of where it's going though.

Apparently true since the boiler was shipped out of Rusk Tx (Texas State RR) a few days ago.  Don't know who to.

The boiler was shipped out years ago when Iowa Pacific was removed as the operator of the Texas State Railroad. 

Hopefully it is going to a good home.  I have more than a passing interest in this engine since it powered one of the earlier fan trips I rode and was the subject of the first roll of Kodachrome I ever shot, used a friend's borrowed Argus C-2.

Where and when was the above picture taken, please? It reminds me of the trestle over the Sacramento River in Knights Landing.

Perhaps the Tarantula is punting on poor Puffy and bringing this one back.

Right branch wrong bridge.  This trestle is on the approach to the levy along the Tisdale Bypass south of Knights Landing.  My records show the picture was taken May 4, 1958.

I would say that is most likely not the case. As you note, 1744 was part of the Fort Worth and Westrn steam fleet at one time before it went to New Orleans.

Saw SP/SLRG 1744's tender on a flatbed truck heading west through Barstow, CA on I-15 today. Anyone know where it's headed?

Noted the cab and assorted parts on the back of a tractor trailer parked on the side of Niles Canyon Rd in Sunol, CA, near Brightside on Sunday afternooon.
