With Just A Few Days To Go In Her Career She Still Put On A Show!
Author: LoggerHogger

Most of us know that Klickitat Log & Lumber Shay #7 was the last Shay in logging service in the U.S..  She ceased her log runs with one last log run on Friday April 3, 1964 and then put on a public excursion to celebrate the end of her career on Saturday April 4.

This photo shows her just a couple days earlier, on Wednesday April 1, 1964.  With Norm Elsner at the throttle, #7 is running with a clear stack as she climbs the grade out of Klickitat, Washington and back to the reload site where a train of loaded log cars awaits her.

She looks like she could keep working this job for another 25 years.  Unfortunately, she is just 3 days away from retirement.

The enginehouse in Klickitat(and pretty much everything else at the old mill site) she used to live in is slated for demolition any time now. Is the any work happening on ol' Number 7 at her new home?

#7 is in rotation for restoration at Willits, but the work has not yet started.
