Milw. Rd. 261 Leaving Muscatine June 2000
Author: AndyBrown

June 25, 2000, Milwaukee Road 261 is leaving Muscatine, IA, eastbound on its way home from Kansas City.  I forget the purpose of this trip but think it might've been for BN family days excursions out west. Anyone else remember?

The fireman should have waited until they were out of town before sanding the flues!

I kind of like the smell of black smoke in the morning. It smells like . . . victory.

Andy,

The engine was returning home from pulling excursions out of Kansas City for the Milwaukee Road
Historical Association's annual convention.

261 is a coal burner, they don't sand flues on coalburners.

Well I'll be damned!  I was wondering how that got all that oil fuel piled up so high on the tender.

Come on Jack, it's obviously a removable slanted oil tank made to look like a coal load.  Kidding aside, that is one heck of a load of coal they got in that tender.

SMH..

It is a coal burner, sanding the flues does not occur on this locomotive..

Great video!! Love how it blasts out of town. Reminds me of when I saw it last September on the Gourmet Express trips.
