SP 4449 Cab Ride
Author: SLORailfanning

In December, 2019 I was one of the lucky few to get a cab ride on the SP 4449 on the Holiday Express runs.
On my cab ride I took vast variety of photos & videos, this is a compilation of the best videos I managed to take in the 45 minute window, Enjoy!

Awesome video thanks for posting. Does anyone know what the box mounted above the engineer is for, the one with the lights that keep changing?

Well,,,,,,,he didn't ask what it is,,,,,,,,,just if anyone knows.

1) Cab signal indicator for the short line they are operating on.

                                      OR

2) The temperature indicator for each of the 8 crown bearings on the drivers. It cycles from left front, to right front, to left #2, to right #2, etc., etc., etc. The led lights at the lower right indicate the temp.

To the left of the steam gauge are 3 gauges, what are they showing.

I highly doubt it’s cab signals and I kind of guessed it was the bearing temperature monitoring system I remember reading a little about on here. Thanks for the explanation, even though I never actually asked lol

My bad

From top to bottom: booster steam pressure, tender water level indicator (which is sometimes turned off), and the steam chest and back pressure gauge. You can see the the steam chest pressure changing every time Mike moves the throttle.

There's one more small gauge above and between the quadruplex air brake gauge and the steam chest pressure/backpressure gauge - what is the small gauge used for?

That is an air pressure gauge for use when MU'ed with diesels, and indicates independent brake pressure on the trailing diesel/diesels.

I like HotWater's answer best, honestly answered the primary question. Done.
