Author: masterphots

My series continues with S&A 4-6-2 No. 750.  I never chased any of its various excursions on the Southern Ry but was able to get a few shots on the New Georgia RR around Atlanta.

1.   Zero milepost on the NGA ready to run a circle trip on CSX rails.  Atlanta  1/14/86

2-3.   Same train out on the line

There is too much smoke. There is not enough smoke.
why are there diesels?  I like the classic diesels.
Too many people. Not enough people.
Radio towers? Not realistic. Looks realistic, just like it was.

NOW...we have that out of the way.

These are beautiful photos of a nice engine. You picked some great locations.
Thank you so much for posting these.

Notice in the last shot wheels painted black, no whitewalls.

I think this engine had a pretty long excursion career, probably around 20 years. These photos were taken in 1986-89. I rode behind it at the 1973 NMRA convention in Atlanta, and I don't think it was new to fantrip use then.

She was donated to the Atlanta Chapter, NRHS, and immediately entered excursion service, mostly over the Georgia RR and West Point Route the first couple of years.  The Southern officially leased the engine in 1967 or 68, and it operated until 1974.  NS did some patchwork repairs in 1983 to fullfill the "returned in operating order" part of the lease, and used it for one more season.  The days of 8 car trains were over, so it was usually in the company of 2-4 FP7s.  After being returned and  receiving repairs at SRM it was leased to the State of Georgia and operated from 1985 to 1989.
