Covid-19 notwithstanding, the Strasburg (PA) Railroad continues to delight the young and old in Pennsylvania's Amish farm country.

Kudos to them for continuing to run while others either gave up do to lack of business or were forced to stop operations do to  state government  restrictions.

Sickle bar mower or possibly a rotary of some kind I would say. Probably used to be driven by wheel rotation but they went resto-mod on it. ..

A rare view showing the fireman actually sitting on the fireman's seat.  Usually the fireman on 475 stands up in the gangway all day.  It is 2 steps up from the gangway to the cab floor, then you have to walk ahead, find the drop seat, pull it up into position, then park your butt.  By then 475 would be yapping for more coal, so you have to repeat the process to get back down behind the backhead to load her up with coal again.  In case you couldn'd tell by her mushy exhaust, 475 is a soak, a very hungry and thisty soak.  All of the fireman's controls: blower, injector valves, even the water glass drain, are arranged to be operated from out in the gangway.

I always figured the 475's fireman's seat was the most unused piece of furniture on the Strasgburg Rail Road.

Thanks for your posting. I am always impressed by the well maintained locomotives and passenger cars. The cars always look good as new, which is an exception to most tourist operations.

A class act for sure. The Gold Standard of tourist railroads without a doubt. Hope they're carrying enough folks to pay the bills. With the virus spiking strongly again in 31 states more shut downs are just around the corner in the midwest and west.

You are absolutely correct in stating that they are "The Gold Standard of Tourist Railroads" as they are in great physical shape overall, and they are located in a tourist haven as well.
