A Stop At The Depot For Orders Before Tying On To Her Train!
Author: LoggerHogger

It's June, 1948 and the SP&S is still steam powered on the Oregon Trunk.  Here we see SP&S 2-8-0 #363 stopped at the depot in Bend, Oregon so her crew can pick up their orders before they tie onto their train for their next trip north to make their connection at Wishram, Washington, just across the Columbia River.

#363 shows the dirt and grime of many prior trips on the Trunk along the Deschutes River.  Perhaps when she gets to the shops at Wishram, they might give her a bath.

I no way does it show any Great Northern heritage...

Unusual firebox.  And for such a remote line, that's a small tender.  I guess they had plenty of water and fuel stops along the way.

Typical of GN steam power.

But they must use the same tender on the return trip.

Belpire firebox, pretty much a GN standard.
