Oregon Rail Heritage Center turntable installation ceremony
Author: Jim700

There was great weather this afternoon for the Oregon Rail Heritage Center's ceremony for starting to dig the pit for the turntable installation.  The rail and ties need to be removed, and some other preparation work, but I was told by the contractor that the actual serious digging will likely begin on Thursday.

The official,in the center has a good shovel technique!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL INVOLVED.

This is a serious engineering undertaking.

Its  great to see the progress..... sooner than you think, 4449
will be doing the pirouette on the turntable ....
Wonderful...

Thank you, Doyle, fot your foresight and leadership.
It's a wonderful career that you've been fortunate to experience.
I'm jealous.

Hearty congratulations to the ORHF team on another important milestone reached. Once fully functional the table will be both a major operating addition as well as an important additional attraction. There's something magical witnessing a 400 ton machine being spun around with ease!!

A bunch of old guys swinging shovels willy-nilly? I’d be wanting a high-vis vest too!

Congratulations all around!

There's an immense amount of earth to be hauled away --- and the lowest
part has to carry-off the rain/storm waters of the future....
Then you can pour the concrete pit wall and floor.

The next TT celebration-event will be after the last piling is driven!
Get the Champagne ready!

Anybody ever think about everything Doyle has accomplished?  He should write a book and it wouldn't be bragging.  Dizzy Dean said "It ain't braggin if you done it".

I asked Doyle about doing a book once, and he said, “NO WAY!! I’d be tied up in litigation for YEARS!!”

Hmm…. Good point.

Gents,
Is there a map or drawing available that shows where this is going to be located on the ORHC site?

Thanks,
Ike

For verbal explanation...

it's out front of the new building, not quite to the street....
Track(s) out of the building will lead to the turntable..

Here is a diagram of the future location of the restored 1924 turntable installation at the Oregon Rail Heritage Center. Information from: https://orhf.org/turntable-project/. View is looking north.

Gents,
Thanks for the info.  Would not have guessed there.
Appears to put a dent in your parking availability.
On my bucket list to visit you in the not-so-distant future.
At 1,920 miles from me that would be about $960 for gas!

Rgds,
Ike

That area was never part of our parking.
