Shortly after making the move to Los Angeles I went downtown to LAUPT and lo and behold Santa Fe 4-8-4 3751 was on display. I can't wait till she is back in steam!

In steam yes, but where is it going to run?

If previous trips are any indication, Los Angeles to San Diego

What with all the top management changes at BNSF, over the past 5 years, plus the current operating personnel "issues", I would not expect to see ANY steam excursions anywhere on the BNSF system.

Does not bode well for the 4449 group then I'm assuming.

Correct, except there are local friendly short lines in the area.

The tracks between Los Angeles and Fullerton are owned by  BNSF, between Fullerton and Oceanside, the Southern California Regional Rail Authority and from Oceanside to San Diego, the North County Transit District. Arranging for a time slot between Hobart yard and Fullerton could be an issue, but BNSF has generally been favorable to allowing 3751 to run over this short distance of their track.

Thoughts...

*Equipped with one ( only) Cross-Compound air compressor?

* What is the current purpose of air hose --- on the pilot---with the red 'glad hand'?
( there really aren't any passenger cars/trains still equipped to use that pipe, are there?)

Wes, there's another compressor on the fireman's side under the cab. I can't speak to the air hose.

Oh, yeah...

Thats right ...I remember seeing pics of the location of the second compressor..
Thanks for the refresher...

Bakdwin was always good at cramming parts onto their locos....Lima
folks were way better at smoother, better laid-out  loco designs.
Once they dropped that idea of the trailer truck+drawbar pocket used
on early 2-10-4s (like T&P locos).

Using the Metrolink San Bernardino Line has been the usual test run route, after major repairs for the 3751 in the past

Here's another pic that shows the compresser under the cab.

Main reservior hose.  And yes, there are.  All Amtrak cars have them.  I'm most familliar with the Superliners, on which this is essentially a "quick charge" line.  The cars can run just fine without them cut in if the need arrises (think multiple taken out by a debris or animal strike).  Supposedly some types of cars must have them cut it, but I don't work with any.
