Allentown and Auburn Christmas Excursion
Author: dschlegel

On my way to drop my daughter off at my folks to spend the night we caught the A&A Christmas train returning to Kutztown, PA.

Here it is at Kohler Road. Note the stone abutment in the woods, in the 1800's the road crossed the railroad on a bridge here.

Enjoy!

Nice.  Looks like some rolling stock is receiving a coat of paint.

Nice to see this small line making a go of it.  Im sure its a labor of love..  Would be nice if they could pick up a little freight biz too, but IDK if there are any prospects other than locating a team track/transfer pad somewhere down the line.

I wonder if NS has any interest in helping shortlines develop traffic, or if they are just a bloated bureaucracy of "not enought profit" to care about any carload freight. ??

They actually have been growing some freight business lately.

The foundry in Kutztown has recently reopen and is using rail.

They also have made a trans load area in Topton for a special clay that comes in covered hoppers and is used by a paving company.

Finally some of the mennonite farmers have been going together and buying hopper cars of feed for their livestock.

Sounds great.  If u evey have a chance, post some video of some freight moves and switching.   SW-1's switching freight on a common carrierr RR are pretty hard to come by.

IDK if the BRW even uses their SW-1 to move freight, or if the former L&S SW-1 in wilkes-barre/scranton is still active.

The Oregon Pacific RR still uses SW-1 100 quite often, usually on freight. I ran her on the Holiday Express the other night.
