Look what I found on FB
Author: Frisco1522

Here's everybody's chance to get all the decks cleared and shout Ed down and clear the air.  Should be interesting and informational.

Shout him down?  You advocating being a heckler?  Give it a rest, this is ridiculous to drag this thing on for years.

It's amazing that people still have a problem with this guy who brought a Big Boy back into steam which myself and many others never ever thought would happen in our lifetimes.

All steam lovers need to be grateful as possible to the UPRR for being the ONLY class 1 railroad to have kept a steam program alive for decades and for investing the considerable dollars to do so with class.

How many new livelong steam lovers do you think have been born from the tens of thousands who have come to track side to witness the magic of steam as presented by the Big Boy??  Many, many I would submit.

If you intend to attend either of these two presentations I hope you'll be as supportive and courteous as possible.

    Thanks, Ross Rowland

I think I get where he's coming from. When the anti-ED trash talking was running high, every time he had a presentation a lot of the old crew loyalists would drone on about how they should go to one and blow the roof off with all this damning information and send him running tail tucked for cover and settle those scandals once and for all, for all to see. As far as I know, they just never got around to it for some reason. Always seemed odd to me.

I'm surprised you would say that after the naysayer convention that ran several pages here a couple weeks ago.  I was ranting at the peanut gallery to give it a rest back then.  My point was exactly that:  Stop dragging this thing on for years.  I guess you didn't see that.
I would be very surprised if the vocal ones would go and say anything.

With the upcoming change of leadership at Union Pacific I would hope people wouldn't give the management and the board of directors reasons for ceasing the steam program.

I wouldn't worry about that. There were strong hints that some folks at Omaha listened to the critical discussions here on TO regarding the problems with 844, and the 4-8-4 was repaired to operation BEFORE 4014 project was allowed to proceed. Other critical comments did not influence the existence of UP Steam. In other words, there were adults involved.

The chance of Vena returning to UP is low at the moment. If that happens, regardless of snide comments here on TO, he'll use his PSR magic, and people have the right to worry about the future of UP Steam.

The idea that "negative" comments can threaten the future of UP Steam is ludicrous. That's an immature way to threaten censorship to an opinion one doesn't like.

No comment from me, after what happened on FB last year I'm not even gonna comment on this!

A smiley or stronger sarcasm might have done it. Anyway, I've been following the topic long enough (going back more than 10 years) that I "got it" too.

Some people get irritated when I'm not subtle (direct) but I have to sacrifice cleverness to get my point across in the faceless digital age.

I think part of my fascination with steam engines I can trace back to my dad taking me to see 8444 back in the 1960s in Denver. Over the years I had great experiences chasing and riding behind 8444 and 3985. I hope the program survives, my oldest grandson keeps chirping at me that we need to see 4014. I had real positive interaction with the former crew and couple brief conversations with Mr. Dickerson at a couple displays of 8444 and 3985. Whatever the issues were they are in the past and nothing is going to change. Let’s just hope things moved forward in both Cheyenne and Silvis.

The only time I talked to someone on the old crew when that was a thing was when 3985 was in Portland for a long layover in 2005. I was curious about the articulation point in the frame and flexible piping. One of them was standing around, so I said I had some questions about it. His reply was "it doesn't actually bend." I said "yeah, I know it's articulated, I was curious about the joint itself." He replied "well, it doesn't bend." And then just kinda sauntered off.
