Cosmetically restored after being damaged in the museum roof collapse of 2003, B&O Ten-wheeler #147 is looking good in 2011.

Gorgeous.

I'd like to put this museum on the list of places to visit.

I tend to avoid large cities for my vacation time, so it's a bit of a quandary.

Maybe a 3 day weekend Cardinal trip. Has anyone done something like this? Wondering about logistics from the Amtrak station to hotel, to the museum and back....

It can be done if you go into Washington Union Station during the week, there are MARC Commuter Trains that operate on the old B&O (CSX) into downtown Baltimore, only a few blocks from the B&O R.R. Museum.  However, to be honest, it's only a few blocks to walk; though I would not do this now since the area from Camden Station (right by Oriole Park at Camden Yards) is no longer a safe area with all the robberies in Baltimore.  There are nearby hotels within a couple of blocks from there but again I would not desire to walk around there any more.  So here is what my advice is:  From Washington Union Station, take either an Amtrak Train or a MARC Commuter Train on the Penn Line (the Northeast Corridor) over to the BWI Airport Train Station.  Both Amtrak and MARC Trains stop there.  There are hotels all around there.  You need to rent a car as I would not take the MTA LIght Rail from there any more either, too many undesirable people now days.  If you rent a car, it is not too far to drive up into Baltimore via I-95 to I-395, take the Martin Luther King Blvd. up to Lombard Street, turn left and go up to Poppleton Street, make a left and you will be at the B&O R.R. Museum Gate at Pratt Street.  Plenty of free parking inside the gate.  The museum has lots to see inside the roundhouse; however, close your eyes while you are in the front yard where you park as you don't want to see all the equipment, including one-of-a-kind passenger cars being allow to rust away.  This is the disgrace part of the museum caused by the priviest management who did not care, not the present day folks who are trying hard to get things in order, but they need lots of donations.

How dirty could it get running 12 mph on a right 
of way that is what?  A mile?

4-4-0 No. 25, the "William Mason" ran as recently
as 2012.  It looked sharp in its classy dark green
paint scheme, which has since been redone into
a slime green. 

Restoration to operation is probably beyond the
capability of the museum these days due to
uncontrollable costs.  They do however do an
excellent job in cosmetic restorations. 

I'd love to see a cost to repair estimage, one
from the city of Baltimore and another from
Strasburg - it would be revealing.

Nice pic  - odd so few pics of her on the whole
of the Internet since 2017 or so. Five on RP
(Railpictures.net), but none since 2013.

I will try to rectify that soon(er or later).

John is right in that you DO NOT want to walk the streets surrounding the B&O museum as it it a VERY rough area not safe even in daylight. Either rent a car or take a cab right through the entrance gate into the museum proper. It is well worth seeing.
