Winterail Steam?
Author: Sasquatch

Hello all: does anyone know if there are any plans for a steam train ride associated with the Winterail weekend?

Thanks either way...

With Winterail being held on Fri. Mar 14th and Sat. Mar 15th in Corvallis, I looked at the regional tourist railroads who (occasionally) run steam.

Santiam Excursion: The Santa Maria No. 205 (2-6-2 built 1924 by Baldwin) will be operating on Sat. Mar 15th at 10:00am and 12:30pm, but no steam on Sun, Mar 16 (diesel runs with brunch).

Oregon Coast Scenic: Start of Season on Sat. Mar 15 and Sun. Mar 16, between Rockaway Beach and Garibaldi, 30 minutes each way. STEAM both days! at 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00 pm from Garibaldi

Chehalis-Centralia Railroad: St. Patrick's Day Dinner Train on Sat. Mar 15. Diesel. (I am unaware of the status of their steam locomotive, 15 year FRA work)

Mt. Hood Railroad: No announced rides in March

Chelatchie Prairie Railroad: No announced rides in March  (I am unaware of the status of their steam locomotive, 15 year FRA work)

Oregon Rail Heritage Center: No announced rides in March

FWIW, the Oregon Coast WILL be running steam that weekend.

What kind of steam (and diesel, for that matter) power does Oregon Coast have?

Unless I’m missing something active steam power on OCSR at present is the former McCloud River #25 (Alco 2-6-2) and a former Craig Mountain 2-Truck Heisler. Active diesels should be an F-7A in full Great Northern paint, a former SP/POTB GP-9 painted up as a Holstein cow, and a former BN/POTB SD-9.

Jeff is correct on the listing of the "active" locomotives on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad (OCSR). I have ridden behind four of those over the years.

See Wikipedia article for the complete OCSR locomotive listing at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Coast_Scenic_Railroad

Note that the the OCSR acquired most of the previous Kepner Collection of steam locomotives.

Yes.... I have updated my listing above.

The Oregon Coast Scenic WILL be running STEAM on Sat. Mar 15 and Sun. Mar 16th, at 10:00am, 12:00pm and 2:00 pm departing from Garibaldi. Likley they will use the McCloud River (Alco 2-6-2) No. 25, built in 1925.
