Steam & Excursion > N&W 3540 with NKP 759Date: 03/12/25 20:20 N&W 3540 with NKP 759 Author: refarkas It is the morning of September 8, 1968 in Conneaut, Ohio where NKP 759 is being moved around by N&W 3540 prior to 759's first excursion after being restored to operating condition. She will make a round trip to Buffalo, New York. Thankfully, 759 ran by itself and did not have a diesel on the point of the train.
1) Full scene. 2) Close crop. Bob Edited 1 time(s). This is a former Wabash locomotive built with the short hood end designated the front, but the horn looks like it's configured to favor long-hood-forward operation.

A few of the times I rode the SR 2-8-2 4501 on various trips it seemed that the host railroad usually had some diesels perform that function. I suppose that changes from carrier to carrier and from time to time as the operating officials retire, move, transfer and different folks call the shots.
