N&W 3540 with NKP 759
Author: refarkas

It is the morning of September 8, 1968 in Conneaut, Ohio where NKP 759 is being moved around by N&W 3540 prior to 759's first excursion after being restored to operating condition. She will make a round trip to Buffalo, New York. Thankfully, 759 ran by itself and did not have a diesel on the point of the train.

2) Close crop.

Looks like 3560 has an early Leslie Supertyfon 3-chime horn with tabbed rear caps.  This is a former Wabash locomotive built with the short hood end designated the front, but the horn looks like it's configured to favor long-hood-forward operation.

Thanks for sharing. So what was the reason for the diesel assist in the yard? Or was it later removed from the train when it was decided it wasn't needed?

Probably nothing more than a switch move for a yard crew already on that diesel.

Yup, a former Wabash GP35, and in blue too....

As flash34 assumed, this was only a switching move. The 759 powered the train.

It has always surprised me how many times sister NKP 765 does its own switching since 1979.  Seems like more times than not.  A few of the times I rode the SR 2-8-2 4501 on various trips it seemed that the host railroad usually had some diesels perform that function.  I suppose that changes from carrier to carrier and from time to time as the operating officials retire, move, transfer and different folks call the shots.
