Good Afternoon Friends-

Just thought I'd share a shot of the VERY FIRST "ATSF100WEST", while she paused briefly at Barstow for the fine townspeople. Note the Santa Fe Dynamometer Car behind the power. The units were the 100LA and 101LA.
The date was February 8, 1941......

And how about the five office cars behind the dynamometer! Wassup with that passenger train on the right. . . is it a UP job? Those baggage-express cars don't look like Santa Fe cars.

Stan, I was a year and 3 months. Didn't realize I'm older than you. How terrible, diseasels in 1941..............

My parents weren't even born when that picture was taken...

My, we aren't getting any younger are we? Firestone produces some fine wines, enjoy. Of course, we use a somewhat less exclusive label onboard the Pony Express

Guess now we know what inspired your trainorders name. As a kid I lived nearly 8 miles from the Santa Fe's mainline in Calif.'s San Joaquin valley. Last time I saw blue & yellow F units had to be around 1950. After that it was usually black & silver GP7s on freights.Years later I learned they were still being operated in Texas, among other places, into the 1970s - or was it the 1980s...

My Dad was 5 and a half (kids always throw in the extra "half" ... ).

Actually, it represents 33.3% in the choice of my "handle". The FP-45 100 (1968) and GP-60M 100 (1990) make up the other 66.6%.

Yes, the freight F's ran off their last miles in the Texas to Kansas City portions of the system, in the 70's. The "A" units were of course morphing into "CF-7's" at Cleburne, and the last of the "B" units were around till late '78/early '79.

There was a thread a few months back that appeared to show a live B-unit still in service in 1980, and I seem to recall reading that 1980 was the last year for them as well:

Those were F7's and F9's, of course. The FT's like 100 were gone by the mid-60's, traded in to EMD on GP9's, 20's, 30's, and 35's.
