A few more from 1974
Author: SP6190

We will start out today in Grand Junction Colorado, where the 5305 Rio Grande’s only chop nose SD9 is working on the hump there. The second shot is the 5771 at Green River UT. The third shot is the 3097 working it’s way down from Soldier Summit to Helper.

This set of pictures starts out with the 5304 working it’s way up to Soldier Summit on the point of a westbound. The 5304 is a single unit helper and run light back down the hill when it’s duties are completed. The 5340 is also westbound on a loaded coal train with a another single unit helper, this time on the rear of the train. The location is Colton Utah.

The first shot in this group is a Utah Railway cab hop, headed by one of their RSD-4s #305. It is headed back to Martin after taking a coal train over the hill to Provo. The last shot is DRGW 3016 west at Castle Gate.

If there ever was an example of "it's all crap know" this is it. How can anything today even remotely come close to stuff like this? Awesome stuff.

The Rio Grande paint scheme and the Rockies were a match like few others. Yellow will never look like it belongs there.
