More from the little yellow box
Author: SP6190

Here are a few more from the yellow box.

#1 B&O 3731 west at the Interstate 215 (actually it might have been the 15 back then) overpass, changing crews on a very rainy Saturday night in January 1978. The B&O power ran through to Bakersfield on this train.

#2 CN 9494 at Main St along the LA river near LAUPT in November 1976. SP had borrowed three CN GP40’s for testing wheel slip controls (I think).

#3 Another shot from the Pepper Ave bridge. This time we have PC 2684 backing down to it’s train in January 1977.

#4 BN 6805 East Bank JCT. on the then normal Sunday afternoon cab hop to West Colton on March 27, 1977.

#5 Santa Fe 3154 in Colton in January 1978.

#6 UP 75 along Cajon Blvd in January 1978.

#7 UP 3023 at Devore heading east in December 77.

#8 UP 6902 along Cajon Blvd on 11-6-77, with two 6900’s and a Fast Forty.

#9 UP 6908 near Summit in July of 76. Just another UP train with DD40’s. Ho-hum.

#10 A quick trip up north gets us a shot of the SP 4450 and 4451 at (???????). The date is sometime in December 1982.

#11 The final shot was taken at the Burbank Metrolink station in September 1999. The lighting and the rainbow appeared just before the 862 pulled into the station.

Believe it was still US 395 back then--at least the stretch between Riverside and San Diego was.

I still have that filter, but it isn't much good anymore.

Hey John, nice series of images...

I recall the old Foremost dairy...they made some pretty good ice cream back in the day! I have a pic or two from the early eighties of the SP passing by there as well...

John, who owned that PC engine in '77? It was a fur piece from home.

That would be Conrail. We had quite a few PC and even a couple of EL's make it out here to the land of palm trees and brown brush in 77.

As for the Cadillacs pulling the bi-level cars it looks like pulling into San Bruno station.

No guarantees though.
