The 70s were a great time on the "Unlimited Power" railroad. What a mixture of power lash-ups they ran. Years ago I saw the 875 at City of Industry, and always wondered about the holes in the frame. Later I learned that it was the ex-EMD demo and was originally designated as a GP-22, but then changed to GP-30 to compete with the U-25b. Notice it has GP-20 marker lights.-BMT

Date: 12/19/06 20:05 Re: More UP from the Author: Milwaukee That is a great shot with 875 followed by the "stock" GP30. You can see many differences between the demo and the stock version with the side by side. The radiator on the 875 looks different as does the slope of the nose with the demo looking almost flat but the stock sloped. The blower bulge and the holes on the side walkway also are unique to the demo. Too bad it was not saved in a museum.

Great pics, BTW! Thanks for sharing, -Wes |
