How Many Stops Does It Make "Sad Sam" Aka" Milk Run"
Author: nspctrjn

We have a couple of names for trains 90-91. It seems I got on it in Redwood City at about 10pm and got to S.L.O. after 8am. This is back in 1955-1958.I was told it was called the the "milk run" because it made so many stops.

I would like to know how many stops it made.

If you had made that trip in November 1958, (the date of my copy of the ORG), your No. 90 would have left Redwood City at 1:05AM and made a whopping 19 scheduled stops before reaching SLO at 9:07AM. There was one flag stop, "To entrain or detrain passengers" carded at Metz. I'm sure the crowds eager to clamber aboard there probably didn't delay the progress too much!

When I rode the train in 1965, it stopped at a road crossing at Pismo to receive and discharge mail. Pismo didn't even have a siding, just a station sign.
