In 1968 Klamath Falls, Oregon was a good place to find a good variety of old SP&S, GN, and SP locomotives.

1. SP Baldwin S-12 2102 on industrial trackage southwest of the station area on April 12, 1968.

2. SP&S Century 636 at GN facility at Klamath Falls, April 13, 1968.

3. Southbound GN train entering Klamath Falls yard with SP&S FA on the point, April 13, 1968.

That last photo is pretty interesting - besides the FA's, there's also the shadow of a Griswold "rotating stop sig" signal to your right.

When it was time to leave southern Oregon and return to the Bay Area, we were fortunate to find a interesting westbound SP train to follow. Following are several photos of SP 6464 West on April, 13, 1968.
SP weathered black widow minus SP symbol F7 6464 with one F9 and two F7 B units, 716, 541, and 549, powered
the 57 car train.

4. Stateline, Just north of Dorris, California.

5. Same location as #4.

6. Macdoel, California.

Interesting photos, I don't recognize the building in the background of photo #1. Is the location North or South of the street overpass? It might be a Mill building or it might be one of the buildings related to ice or cold storage.
Photo #7 is the old siding of Cougar. It was removed in the early 60's if I remember the story correctly.
Interesting that the medallion is missing from the front of the F-Unit.

Wow, great photos. That is one of the best SP&S C-636 photos I've ever seen.

Great shots, particularly love the C636 shot. Can never get enough of Alco last.

The 108-car siding of Cougar was eliminated when CTC was installed between Black Butte and Klamath Falls in the late 1965-early 1966 period. It shows up in an Oregon Division timetable dated April 25, 1965; gone in an Oregon Division timetable dated April 24, 1966.

By the 1960s, there were a lot of SP F7A units with their medallions missing. Lifted by greedy-fingered collectors, I presume.
