Back on April 26, 1986, EMD GP60 demonstrators 7, 6, and 5 charge the 991 train out of Franklin Canyon and into the brilliant light of morning at Vine Hill, CA. Even with 66 cars, this train would be impossible to chase down the Valley, but these shots were definitely worth sleeping in the car all night to make sure that they didn't get away early.

The tail end of the 991 with the EMD GP60 demonstrators had cab 142, 53-John S. Reed, and 50-Santa Fe.

What's kind of interesting is the middle unit isn't equipped with air conditioning but the end ones are. I guess they didn't intend to break up the set. Nice looking units, too bad they didn't run as well as they looked.-BMT

I've always been happy with how they run. First units I'd ever seen with an 'accelerometer' and was fascinated to watch it. These were on Santa Fe 'shooters'.

I DH'd out of Wellington KS. to KC on this train on 4-30. It came through there at about 9pm, & I rode the 2nd unit. Showed into KC at midnight.
