SP 4338 at Vaughn

SD9 #4338 on a work train of water cars and "snap track" at Vaughn on the Coos Bay line. They were there due to the tunnel fire (#13) and repair. Photo taken May 24th, 1986 at 3:25PM.

Looks like the 4338 was IN the tunnel DURING the fire! (What's red and gray and black all over? '80s-'90s Southern Pacific!)

Awesome photo!....full light package, the distinctive SP "flat oval" derail target...only thing missing is a genuine ADLAKE switch lock in place of the more contemporary American Lock Co. version.

You mean Vaughn Oregon.....there is another Vaughn in New Mexico, where the East Line passes under the ATSF.
