While Pittsburgh Railways Co. had a really huge and under-reported streetcar network into the 1960's, they also ran interurban service as far as Washington, Charleroi, and Roscoe, PA. After 1949 this service was handled by PCC's.

Photo #1 is a PRCo interurban map.
Photo #2 is #1711 outbound at Tylerdale on the way to Washington, PA. This car is preserved at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
Photo #3 is 1719 at the Charleroi Carhouse, 1952.

Photo #7 is 1723 in 1953, outbound in a classic interurban setting.
Photo #8, meanwhile 1722 is in downtown Pittsburgh, inbound from Charleroi, in 1949. Since this was a downtown loop, I am guessing it came in from Charleroi, but is going outbound to Washington on its next trip.

A bit of trivia: out beyond Charleroi, there are two adjacent stations, Roscoe and Snyder. There used to be a short line in Texas called the Roscoe, Snyder and Pacific. How's that for a coincidence? (either that, or the towns in Texas were founded by pioneering Pennsylvanians).

When a former resident of the Steel City found that I was planning to visit his native region, he said, "Do you know what the local definitions of 'living dangerously' is?" "No, tell me" "It's visiting Castle Shannon on March 17 wearing an orange necktie." Not sure if this is still the case, but for many years, Castle Shannon was a heavily Hibernian neighborhood.
