ex-Reading T-1 2102 with Elephant Ears
Author: poffcapt

It is April 29, 1973 and Reading 2102 is masquerading as D&H 302. She is getting a load of coal at Whitehall, NY, while Canadian Pacific 4-6-2 #127, masquerading as D&H 653, turns on the Rutland "Y". This 2 day double headed steam trip was part of Delaware & Hudson's 150Th Anniversary celebration. Note the portable radio the gentleman passing in front of the locomotive is carrying. The 2102 is presently stored in the Reading & Northern roundhouse in Port Clinton, PA awaiting repairs. I know the purists are cringing, but I was always fond of elephant ears!

Here's a shot of the disguised 2102 on the home-bound leg a Hoboken-Binghamton weekend roundtrip that year. The photo is on EL's former DL&W mainline in the Poconos, the train eastbound. I've forgotten the exact location.

Yes, I'm a D & H "purist" and I'm cringing! :)

Thanks for posting images from one of the few exciting events in an otherwise gloomy railroad scene in much of the Northeast during the early 1970s.
