Really. And it looked like some days it was more than 6 cars.

With that power they could take full advantage of the 90MPH speed limit and even make up a little time if needed.

They didn't worry about fuel consumption back then. Daze

Well, a lot of the time, all of 'em weren't running, either. I remember heading from Rockford into Chicago behind Amtk #349 on the "Black Hawk--
that ex-CB&Q E had only one engine working, but still got us over the road.

That was an interesting time when the E units were used on the San Diegans with the mixture of passenger cars used then. The second unit was helpful for the run up the 2.2% grade on Miramar hill and if cars were added for the return trip.
