A Night on the Montour RR
Author: jmbreitigan

A typical nite along the Montour Railroad.
Darkness prevails.
Montour X1 is positioned, boom down on her idler car.
Montour #4 Mine.
The empty yard...
Hoppers jacknifed while shoving into the yard.
The car yard gang arrives.
Blocking..rerailers...bars and a spike maul.
The tools of the trade...
Or better yet, the tools needed to do the job.
Wood blocks being positioned against derailed wheels.
Hammered into place with the spike maul.
The lining bar shims a rerailer into position.
In the darkness of a early winters night.
Montour RR Employees, Seip...Roth...Sposato.
Pause for a moment at the request...
Of a young boy with his camera...
Standing trackside.
Wide eye'd - full of anticipation.
A portrait of the workers...at work.
A lit fussee will start a fire near the derailment.
A bit of light...
And a bit of heat to ward off bone chilling frost.
Broken ties...splintered blocks...some coal.
The smoky aroma...
Of many dark nights working the railroad.
The Montour R.R.
