Nostalgia & History > American Locomotive (RS1), American ColorsDate: 11/20/12 04:28 American Locomotive (RS1), American Colors Author: valmont This Jim Claflin shot of Genesee & Wyoming RS1 #1976 was taken @ Retsof*, NY on Oct. 6, 1978. It seemed like almost everyone had Bicentennial scheme they thought was the best ... or the worst, not sure where this one would rank, but Jim sure 'nailed it'.
* Retsof is the name of the towns founder Foster, spelled backward. Retsof is south of Rochester, NY. There was a large salt mine there until it collapsed in 1994 and the G&W's orange salt hoppers were a common sight in Western NY back then, easily standing out in trains and in cluttered yards.
