Nostalgia & History > Roll by the "California Zephyr" somewhere in UtahDate: 11/22/12 09:13 Roll by the "California Zephyr" somewhere in Utah Author: photobob Im finally getting around to scanning some of my medium format negatives I took back in the 1960's. Here's one from a trip I took from Oakland to Denver on one of the last runs of the California Zephyr. That front dome was one great car to ride on. Does anyone out there know what this location is? Happy Thanksgiving to everyone Im going to get stared chowing down.

My favorite spot on the Zephyr was the front row of the last dome car on the train. I have vivid memories of watching miles of WP's constant lit signals under starry skies while zooming across the Salt Flats after departing Wendover.

I rode the RGZ once when a cigar smoker had taken up residence in that front seat. He had the car all to himself. :-( Bill Gillfillan Tulsa, OK Date: 11/22/12 21:04 Re: Roll by the "California Zephyr" somewhere in Utah Author: Auburn_Ed Looks more like Colorado, east of Grand Junction, between Palisade and Debeque or Parachute. Just a guess, but the Aspen trees seem more Colorado than Ruby Canyon.
Ed **********Revision*********** Check out <www.trainweb.org/chris/ruby1.html>. It has photos along the line thru Ruby Canyon, about the 7th photo looks REAL close to your photo. Based on that, I'll change my guess to.....Ruby Canyon. OOPS! Can't make a link here, anyway, you'll see. Ed Edited 5 time(s). Last edit at 11/22/12 22:03 by Auburn_Ed. It looks like a passing siding on the east end of Debeque Canyon in Colorado. Where I-70 jumps the Colorado River now. Date: 11/23/12 07:40 Re: Roll by the "California Zephyr" somewhere in Utah Author: WAF RFengineer Wrote:
