Nostalgia & History > Almost the EndDate: 11/24/12 21:46 Almost the End Author: railstiesballast On an overcast day in Central Texas, January 4th, 1983, (according to my almost 30-year old notes) the next to the last Blue Streak Merchandise via the Cotton Belt and the San Antonio Division roars through Mumford on the Dalsa cutoff between Hearne and Flatonia. In a couple of days the SP will run from St. Louis to Kansas City and on to the "Cotton Rock" to Tucumcari NM and El Paso, cutting hours and miles off of their best transcontinental fast freight schedules.
