Shasta Huff N Puff
Author: sphogger

Both late 60's early 70's, somewhere around then...

The Shasta Huff 'n Puff (remember the Sunset mag ads?)
and the Roseburg Mill in Mt Shasta when the local economy
was vibrant and busy with forest products.

Brings a tear to my eye.

That would be the first photo that I've seen of the 'Mill' in the City of Mt Shasta. The granite plug on the hill is a definite location guide.

Couple more.

Somewhere in a binder I've got another horribly washed out Rsoeburg photo with
chip gons. I'll have to dig for that sometime. Might be worth trying some Photoshop
magic on it.

It was before Nixon went to China. If only he would've stayed home.

NAFTA and GATT didn't help either. Better to cut down Canadian trees I guess.

Indeed, Ross Perot's giant sucking sound ended up leading to China.

As I recall, Perot opposed NAFTA, but his candidacy sucked off 20% of the vote, so Clinton won.

Was that Roseburg mill where the Mt. Shasta Pine and Manufacturing mill used to be south of town, or was where that P&M Cedar mill was next to the McCRRR on the north part of town, I think there's a Coca Cola Bottling plant or something along those lines there now.

Tim- Roseburg was located towards the south end of Mt. Shasta City, between the SP main and South Mt. Shasta Boulevard, just north of where the railroad passed under I-5...

P&M was a separate operation, it started out as Cooper's Mill and then was a P&M Cedar operation for a long time. They closed down in 1990. Coca Cola (Dannon) operated a water bottling plant there for a while, but they closed down around 2010...however, within the last week Crystal Geyser purchased the old plant and has announced it will be back in operation by the end of next year.

Thanks for the photographs...
