The units and scenes you show were typical of that era. N&W most often used 4 axle EMD units on their Des Moines trains then.

I was told that the N&W in Des Moines was not photographed that much. Six axle units were banned from Iowa N&W lines. But, a SD-9 did get to Council Bluffs as did Wabash E-units and PA-1's.
