That burned up caboose is still sitting at the Boone& Scenic Valleys bone yard.

Thanks for posting those, but as a regular viewer of N&W & DMU operations in DesMoines around that time, I have to question the "Rare" claim. The units and scenes you show were typical of that era. N&W most often used 4 axle EMD units on their Des Moines trains then.

I was told that the N&W in Des Moines was not photographed that much. They probably mean the road trains which were overnight operations for much of that time. brc600

Six axle units were banned from Iowa N&W lines. But, a SD-9 did get to Council Bluffs as did Wabash E-units and PA-1's. Lou Schmitz has a pic of the latter in CB and my brothers have pics of the former. brc600
