Date: 12/01/13 22:29 Re: Santa Fe Merced CA Author: MojaveBill When my folks and I rode the Golden Gates between Bakersfield and Hanford we were always seated in those combines - usually at the front of the coach section across from the News Butcher with all his goodies!
The trip took very little time because the train, in those pre-HSR times, usually exceeded 100 MPH on that straight piece of track, and was always listed in the annual Railroad Magazine speed tables... Back in those days the folks in Hanford appreciated fast train service.
