As a native Californian and one who has never been to WV, I find this picture unlike anything seen out west. Looks like a model railroad scene, with city type buildings facing the railroad tracks only a short distance away. Is that a one or two lane road between the railroad and the structures? Is there a street behind the buildings, possibly the Main Street? When the buildings were occupied was there parking in front? Guess what I'm wondering is why everything is so compact?

Things are a little snug near the bottom of the hollor, and yes it's a one lane gravel road.

Westbound,
Sorry for the delay in responding. What you are seeing is the main drag of a town named Thurmond, WV. The depot is on the same side of the tracks as I, located behind me. This town is situated in the bottom of the New River Gorge and right behind those buildings is a mountain. One the other side of the tracks is the New River and more mountains. If you are interested in more information about this place, you can start here: http://thurmondwv.org/
