I had one of the builders plate from that loco, now in another's collection. The others went to scrap as you say. With the war traffic volume demanding as many units as possible, what was wrong with these units that made them more valuable as scrap? It's not clear whether it was complete when the above photo was taken.) If so, that's a powered:dummy ratio that would get you laughed out of the NMRA.

Did PRR try the one that was completed and found it wasn't working out? Did the GG-1 come along and make these units obsolete before they were finished? Makes me think of the Ford Tri-motor airplane and how the DC-3 made it obsolete except for certain specialized tasks in a few years.
