Horse Creek area redux: D&RGW F's on the C&S
Author: valmont

Another Bruce Black shot, this one labeled "14 mi N of Horse Creek, WY". He took this on April 9, 1971.

Power was D&RGW 5574/5553/5573/BN(CBQ)3013

Interesting consist. I was going to say this had to be sugar beet season when
the C&S routinely leased power. But in April? Well, I don't know much about
the harvesting of sugar beets, that's for sure.

Isn't the Burlington painted unit a GP40?? From what I can tell, it sure looks
like it.

Thanks for psoting!

Shots on the SP Mina Branch have similar scenery, those units got around in their
later years.

Could the hoppers have ore from the mine at Guernsey? When did it close?

I often wondered what sat there at Horse Creek, I arrived too late to ever see the depot - also, those hoppers certainly have the patina of Guernsey-Sunrise iron ore, they were still hauling cars of that raw ore in 1974 for sure, they would be placarded "SUNRISE IRON ORE" stapled to the tackboards. === === = === JLH
