A Plethora of Fallen Flags

Don't get to use that word often. It's July of 1968,
and here's 4 units ready to be shipped from GE in Erie -
U30C's for the CB&Q (technically C&S) and C&O, and U33C's
for EL and GN.

As we are near election day - let's get the voting started. I'm for the GN unit being best use of color in this line-up.

Awesome photo! Who would ever guess that combo would be captured together? Any other photos from GE during that era?

Thanks for sharing.

I agree with the EL being the best one in the picture.

GN blue is terribly awful, EL is a great paint scheme.

I was going to say they look like toys.

My vote is for the Q.

I'd go for the GN if it were in GN colors. Or the Burlington if it were in "Everywhere West" colors. The C&O scheme is boring. So that leaves the EL by default, which is the DL&W scheme. But it is nice when a plethora happens!

This is one of the best new power photos I have seen. The GE building and sign is icing on the cake. My pick for first place is the C&O motor; really like that color scheme when new or clean. Can't thank you enough for the great photo.

A fine photo that illustrates how colorful and diverse America's railroads were before deregulation, mergers, and system "rationalization..." Thanks for sharing...

Nitpick. Not "technically C&S". Colorado and Southern had autonomous management
into the BN, and was not formally merged until about 1980. While the Q, later BN,
was the majority stockholder, the C&S had it's own executives and board, and it's
employees senority was separate fro the Q's. The FW&D however, was wholly owned
by the C&S and existed basically to satisfy a Texas law that required all railroads
that operated in that state to have their executive offices in that state. That's
why there were various subsidiaries of the railroads, e.g. Gulf Coast and
Santa Fe, Panhandle and Santa Fe, Texas and New Orleans, among the most prominent,
that operated in Texas for years.

Personally, I'll take the C&S engine with the EL second. But then, I'm biased to the
Midwest.

when in doubt always zoom in on the trackwork ... the detail in real trackwork can very rarely be duplicated in model scale ...

+1. Would love a shot from the other end of the "consist" as well as this. Fab shot.
