A South Shore Train at 75th Street Chicago, 1964
Author: MartyBernard

A northbound CSS&SB train passing the IC Electric 75th Street Station on the south side of Chicago on March 31, 1964. At the top of the photo is a signal. You can see them on the next signal bridge over the non-electrified tracks. The last two cars of the train have not been stretched and the second to last is a non-powered trailer.

Enjoy,

As I recall, the South Shore undertook a rebuilding program that lengthened the cars. Perhaps that is what is meant.

Yes, they lengthened the cars. Some had thermal pane windows and air conditioning added. Look carefully at my photo and you can see the longer and shorter cars. The longer (stretched) ones are slightly taller for a few feet at both ends.

The difference is easier to see in some of the other photos I've posted here.
