Electric Trains thru 'Melrose' --- Oakland, CA.
Author: KeyRouteKen

Hi Everybody--
Both Key System and SP-IER trains once operated thru East Oakland's MELROSE District.
Photo 1 from the Tom Gray collection shows a Westbound IER train at MELROSE station around 1940.
After the IER abandoned service in 1941, the Key System re-routed their "A"-Line transbay line off of East 14th Street and connected to former IER trackage out Bond Street and Bancroft Avenue to Havenscourt Blvd.  This new re-route lasted from about the latter part of 1941 to 1950.

Photo 2.  A Key System "A"-train getting ready to head Westbound on East 14th Street after coming off the former SP--IER right of way.

Photo 3.  The same location as it looks today !

Photo 1  courtesy of Dan Furtado.  Photos 2 and 3 from KRK Archives.

The locations of Photo 1 and Photo 2 were right across East 14th Street from each other..  (Today known as International Blvd)

Cheers.

At least that neat triangular building survives.  Thanks Ken.
