Here is a view of Cab Forward 4227 at Roseville.  No date on the print but Art's other photos of Roseville are dated March 1956.  This engine might be stored serviceable on this date.  Art Laidlaw photo.

Is it the light?   It looks like there isn't lettering on the tender?!

Thanks for sharing these!  I only met Art a couple of times, but knew his daughter Carolyn quite well.  We worked 11-14 together when she was a TA.  (I lost track of her when she moved to K Falls)
What ever became of his Pierce-Arrows?

I don't think they lettered the sides of the AC tenders later in the game for some reason.

The SP stopped lettering the tender sides on the cab forwards, sometime in the early to mid 1950s. Especially those locomotives assigned to the Donner Summit line, with all the snow sheds & tunnels.
