Nostalgia & History > Juice Jack Joy or Green Before Its TimeDate: 11/29/15 15:43 Juice Jack Joy or Green Before Its Time Author: MacBeau Established in 1892, and electrified in 1913, the fourteen mile Niagara Junction Railway remained a property of the Niagara Falls Power Company until 1948 when if came under the control of the NYC, LV, and Erie, and would stay that way until 1976 and the advent of Conrail. Perhaps the best attestation to this little railroad’s traffic levels were the seven identical E10B center cab electrics delivered from GE in 1952. Sources are conflicted on exactly when the electricity was turned off, but sometime between 1979, and 1983, the quarter century old juice jacks were sold, bringing an end to six plus decades of “green” switching in Niagara Falls. Credit the late Richard Egen for both images, April 1968.

If ever there was a location that needed "green" technology, it was Niagara Falls, NY with the Hooker Chemical complex served by the Niagara Junction. Lots of odd aromas...
