Well, other trains could enter the 2248's work area, if they were instructed to protect against it. But we are getting way too technical, here. Think big picture. Double secret? Warmer... the date is significant, but not for a retiring hoghead... EO Date: 02/11/16 11:37 Re: TO Tuesday: Special Thursday SP Quiz Edition 4 Fans Author: hogheaded I might add that one of the respondents above has given a clue so significant that I don't want to blow the contest prematurely by highlighting it.

Gad, I thought that this would be an easy one for you diehard SP fans, once you crunched the numbers.
As an inducement to end things with dispatch, I want to remind you about the winner's prize. As always, it's a nice fresh virtual can of Bulgarian peas. EO Date: 02/11/16 12:51 Re: TO Tuesday: Special Thursday SP Quiz Edition 4 Fans Author: hogheaded spicolli1864 Wrote:

Please tell that to all of the guys that I used to work with on the branches (-: The deal is that SP (including the above TO's dispatcher) called the segment from Cal Avenue to Vasona the Los Altos Branch at one time or another. Orginally, it was known as the Santa Cruz Cutoff, or simply the Cut Off. My fellows also used to informally call it the California Avenue Branch. The line from San Jose to Los Gatos through Vasona was originally the Santa Cruz main (starting with the SPC narrow gauge days), but became the Los Gatos Branch after the line over the hill was washed out in 1940. When the segment between Los Gatos and Vasona was abandoned, the remainder of the Los Gatos Branch came to be called the Vasona Branch. After the California Avenue end of the Los Altos line was abandoned in 1964, that segmant was name-wise lumped in with either the Vasona Branch, or just as commonly the short Permanente Branch up to the cement plant - in the latter case, the Vasona branch was also called the Permanente Branch. Clear as mud, eh? Yeah, the timetables may not have agreed with us always, but ask any local rail where the most convenient spot was to purchase beer next to the tracks on either the Los Altos, or Permanete or Vasona Branches, and the response would invariably be "The Monte Vista Store!" Proper terminology was secondary in our minds to proper hydration. EO Date: 02/11/16 13:25 Re: TO Tuesday: Special Thursday SP Quiz Edition 4 Fans Author: hogheaded OK, as warned, TIME OUT until 6:00 PM-ish, PDT.
I am going to be severely disappointed with you fellow SP fans if no answer has appeared by then. Again, this is not a toughie, if you just crunch the numbers... EO Date: 02/11/16 14:47 Re: TO Tuesday: Special Thursday SP Quiz Edition 4 Fans Author: steph62850 OK, I cheated and searched the TO archives. It was the T. Louis Chess retirement excursion on June 2, 1957.
